Do you think there are more beautiful things now than in the past?
Oh mmmm, that’s a tough question…but I guess I would have to say yes.
In general, I suppose there are more beautiful things, in a variety of forms, for example, architecture, clothing and accessories, oh, and things like furniture, and kitchenware.
Compared to items from the past, they are better quality, more elegant and shinier and in that way, much more beautiful. Jewelry is also a great example of this. I guess for the past, there is a type of beauty in the rustic old days, a type of simplicity, but I guess that’s not really a physical thing.

What beautiful scenery spots are there in your country?
Oh, there’s a lot. Off the top of my head, there’s Yellow Mountain, it’s a very pleasant place to visit. It sits in Anhui province and is famed for its pine trees, oceans of clouds, and unique natural landscape…there’re deserts, valleys, other mountains, rivers, and lakes.
In fact, one of the most famous lakes is in my home province of Sichuan, it’s called Jiuzhaigou, which in English literally means ‘nine-village-valley’, and has beautifully clean and clear glacial water lakes. The area is extremely beautiful.

Where do you think people usually come into contact with beautiful things?
Well, I guess it depends on where you live, but I’m sure most places, most things, most of everything can be looked at as beautiful or containing some beauty.
Like a shopping mall, beautiful clothes and things, in the park with beautiful flowers and trees, perhaps around the neighborhood and see some beautiful kids drawings or just with the glow of hazy sunshine on the trees, all can be thought of as places where you can find beauty I think.

Why do you think people create beautiful things?
Well, I don’t know why somebody would want to create ugly things, but there are those types. But I think most artists, for example, want to create beautiful things, and music, photos and the like. Why not, because beauty things bring pleasure to the senses. Beauty pleases the eyes and ears, so it seems it’s part of human nature…at least that’s what I think.
